After months of hard work from our dedicated Woodlands team in central New Brunswick, we are pleased to announce that the Cains River Bridge is now complete! This bridge gives our teams a greater connectivity province-wide, as well allowing us to decrease fuel consumption per tonne of wood delivered!
The bridge was built as part of a larger off-road network, with a goal to increase truck payload capacity, reduce the reliance on numbered highways, and improve the overall system of the land base in central New Brunswick. With its completion, a major part of our Doaktown operations are now connected directly to the Grand Lake Timber sawmill, which reduces travel time for our contractors, operators, staff, and float trucks. This means greater efficiency and less time on the road for our staff! Our goal is to reduce the number of log trucks on government highways; this way, there are less passenger car interactions with large trucks and the safety of the general public is improved. The bridge also reduces transportation costs by allowing larger on- and off-road trucks than numbered highways, which will decrease the number of trucks required in the future. This is a positive improvement to both safety and the environment.
In the future, this off-road network will be extended further north to connect more of Doaktown and areas north of the Miramichi to places south of the river and to the Grand Lake Timber sawmill.
We thank each and every member of our team who contributed to building this bridge, and we can't wait to record the improvements it will make to our operations in rural areas!
