Irving Nature Park's Saints Rest Marsh recognized as a Treasured Wetland

J.D. Irving, Limited (JDI) is proud to partner with Ducks Unlimited Canada to recognize the Irving Nature Park's Saints Rest Marsh as one of New Brunswick's first Treasured Wetlands.

The Treasured Wetlands program is a partnership between Ducks Unlimited and New Brunswick's Department of Environment and Local Government. The site designations are based on ecological or cultural importance or their importance to the community and increases the opportunity for the public to engage with wetlands and build community ownership.

This achievement was celebrated at the Irving Nature Park on October 1st, 2023, from 11AM-2PM on the marsh boardwalk. Over 150 visitors attended to learn about the salt marsh and the rich biodiversity which calls it home at several stations hosted by Ducks Unlimited Canada and the Irving Nature Park.

The Irving Nature Park is a 600-hectare privately-owned and publicly used park located in Saint John, NB. The barrier beach protects the outflow of Manawagonish creek and estuary and the silt build-up created a rich salt marsh which is home to numerous waterfowl, migratory shorebirds and other wildlife. The Irving Nature Park blends conservation with education and recreation. It protects environmentally significant and sensitive areas while facilitating outdoor learning and recreational opportunities.

In late 2022, JDI committed 10,000 hectares of privately held Acadian forest, coastline and dunes in New Brunswick to be recognized as effective area-based conservation measures (OECMs). Learn more here: jdirving.com/en/newsroom/NCC-salutes-innovative-leadership-for-nature/
