Minto Family Ice Fishing Tournament

J.D. Irving, Limited's Woodlands Division was proud to present 10 year old Ethan Kassiram with the registration prize of a full set of ice fishing gear at the 2018 Minto Family Ice Fishing Tournament.

For the past 20 years, the Village of Minto hosts a family ice fishing tournament in the Grand Lake area of New Brunswick. This year, over a hundred people from all around stopped by the Keyhole at Princess Park to set up for several hours of fun.

“We’re really pleased to have JDI on board. They brought us some nice prizes and I’m sure next year if they’re on board again, there’ll be probably double the number of people here looking at the beautiful prize we have”, says Don Gould, Mayor of Minto.

The largest fish of the day, at 24 inches was caught by the 15 and under age group. With no limit as to how many holes to fish from, many families were setting up multiple holes in the ice with homemade contraptions. There were three categories in the catch and release competition (Pickerel, Perch and other) and many fish were entered and measured. Hot dogs and hot chocolate rounded out a great day of fun for the whole community!

Minto holds several ice fishing tournaments every winter, the final being the Tri-Lake tournament. This 3-day tournament, started at The Keyhole (January), then French Lake (February), finishing with a final day at MaQuapit Lake March 10th. This year, JDI will be providing the registration prize for the final day of the Tri-Lakes Tournament, the winner taking home a full set of ice fishing gear.
