JDI Sponsors Minto Mountain Bike Race and Confirms Support for 2019

The Fourth Annual Coal Miner’s Lung Mountain Bike Race will be held in June 2019 and J.D. Irving, Limited Woodlands Division is looking forward to supporting great community volunteers as a sponsor of the event. This past summer, JDI Woodlands was pleased to sponsor the Third Annual Coal Miner’s Lung Mountain Bike Race in Minto, NB. 144 bikers participated in the 20, 40 or 60 kilometer races throughout a large trail system in the abandoned coal mines that surround Minto. JDI’s sponsorship included the donation of the registration prize, a Fat Bike, which was won by Noah Lydon, water for riders and guests, volunteers, as well as a handful of employees participating in the race itself.

“This event brings riders from all over, people coming from out of province for the weekend. We’re hoping next year is bigger and better and we see more bikers out there,” Erica Barnett, Deputy Mayor of Minto.

Leading up to the race, JDI provided machinery to help grade and prepare the trails as well as signage to clearly mark the trail system. This was hugely helpful during the race, as there were three different courses with different routes. All trails came back to Veteran's Park in Minto, where food trucks were waiting and a live band put on a fantastic show for the rest of the afternoon.

"Minto's mountain bike trail system used to be a best kept secret but they are quickly becoming a well known mountain bike destination in the Maritime Provinces. The trails and terrain are very unique and appeal to a wide range of skill levels. The Coal Miners Lung race organizers and the town have put together an awesome event and its no wonder the number of participants has grown so big so fast," says Brent Thompson, Wood Procurement and Sales with Woodlands and an avid mountain biker.

"We're very pleased to confirm our support for next year's event on June 16, 2019. It's a great competition and word is spreading, so we look forward to welcoming even more participants to Minto next summer," Robert Fawcett, Director of Corporate Relations, Forestry.

Mountain Bike Minto, and the Coal Miner's Lung Mountain Bike Race were each covered by international biking magazines.
