Celebrating 26 Years of the Can-Am Crown!
The Can-Am Crown International Sled Dog Races are a long-standing tradition in Fort Kent, Maine. Irving Woodlands, LLC is proud to sponsor the 250-mile race, the longest and highest caliber race in the Eastern United States and a qualifier for the Alaskan Iditarod Race.
Mushers throughout North America and around the world gathered in the community of Fort Kent on March 3rd to compete in three races: the 30-mile, 100-mile, and 250-mile race.
A total of 13 mushers participated in the 2018 Irving Woodlands, LLC Can-Am Crown 250. Martin Massicotte of St-Tite, Quebec came in first place; this is his 5th straight and 9th total first place win of the Can-Am 250. Behind him were Denis Tremblay of St. Michel des Saints, Quebec in second, and Andre Longchamps of Pont-Rouge, Quebec in third.

The Can-Am Crown is a very special annual tradition in Fort Kent and a highlight of Maine’s winter sporting season," said Jim Irving. "The event organizers and volunteers are a tremendous team of dedicated local citizens who have worked very hard to plan a world-class event. And, it is the commitment and energy of our employees that enables us to give back to worthwhile community events like this one. Events like the 250-mile sled journey we are sponsoring through the woods remind us of what a diverse and vital role Maine’s forests play in the economic, social and environmental health of the state."
The Irving Woodlands heated tent with complimentary BBQ is always a favorite among the community. Despite the winter weather, this year's event brought approximately 5,000 spectators to Fort Kent for a great day of sport and community.
Irving Woodlands, LLC would like to thank all the participants in the races, spectators, and the tremendous team of local volunteers who made the 26th Can-Am a huge success!
About the Can-Am Crown: The Can-Am Crown was founded on October 16, 1992 to provide a mid-distance sled dog race to a growing community of mushers throughout the regional and international community and to boost the area's image as a travel destination. The Can-Am Crown 250 has rapidly gained popularity as the longest sled dog race in the eastern United States. The first-place winner of the Irving Woodlands Can-Am Crown 250 not only qualifies for the Alaskan Iditarod, but also wins a $29,000 USD purse.
