The First Annual JDI Fishing Tournament in Chipman

This August, J.D. Irving, Limited (JDI) was proud to host the First Annual JDI Chipman Fishing Tournament in Chipman, NB. The tournament was held over two days during the annual Chipman Summer Festival. Participants were able to fish anywhere between Oromocto and East of Chipman on local rivers and lakes.

“JDI has been an extraordinary kind of support, with this first fishing tournament that we hope will continue, and also in partnership with many other areas with the village,” said Carson Atkinson, Mayor of Chipman.

The end of day two had all participants returning to the Chipman Marina where the Chipman Legion served over 700 hamburgers and 500 hot dogs at the free BBQ, 75 kids had their faces painted, the Chipman Youth Center Car Wash announced they raised over $150, Bass Pro Shops gave out activity bags to 250 kids and 16 individuals tried Woodlands' new forestry Simulator.  An award ceremony started late in the afternoon where the 118 registered participants hoped to win some of the over $6000 in prizes. JDI sponsored the registration prize of a canoe, which was won by Doug Barton of Gaspereau Forks, NB

"Chipman and Minto are very important to our business, as we employ over 500 people in our Sawmill and Woodlands. We ensure the long term growth and sustainability of our operations by ensuring the same for our local communities. We want to encourage people to live and work in the area, which is why we participate in great events like the Chipman Fishing tournament," said Jim Lawless, Regional Manager of Central New Brunswick.
