Recognizing US National Forest Week
This National Forest Week, Irving Woodlands, LLC is celebrating the 193-million-acre forest system nationwide and its public benefits. The company is proud to sustain generations of healthy, fast-growing and resilient forests which includes over 519,000 hectares in northern Maine.
Irving Woodlands, LLC takes its role as stewards of these forests seriously with an award-winning voluntary conservation program. The program began in Maine in the 1980s and has since grown to 2,001 sites across New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and Maine. This program conserves areas for a wide range of values. Over 3,046 hectares of unique forest stands and high conservation value areas have been voluntarily set aside as part of the program.
Irving Woodlands, LLC makes sure its working forest works for all. In Maine, forest health objectives are aligned with the criteria and objectives outlined within the Maine Forest Service's Outcome Based Forestry Law. They maintain third-party certifications for woodlands operations. This approach allows for a competitive wood supply for Maine mills, 31% fewer roads built and improved forest health overall. It also reduces mortality and forest loss due to disease and wind damage. Science-based harvesting techniques and management leads to thriving, biodiverse working forests that are worthy of celebration.
